christmas in vancouver
sometimes, it’s hard to get into the festive mood in a rain-nine-months-out-of-twelve city like vancouver. even when christmas lights are on … it’s hard to get inspired in all of the greyness and the rain. and so … a little snow goes a long long way, even if it means that we have to be extra careful on the roads because we’re not used to driving on snow. the way i see it, when i have to slow down because of the snow, i can also slow down to see the lights. and in such a wintry wonderland, it’s hard not to find a christmas jingle sneaking under my breath, and feel good and christmasy about it

every year, the cuccione family spend days to create this blazing tribute to christmas, and to their son, michael james cuccione, a 16 year old boy who died from a form of cancer affecting the lymph nodes. michael, despite his crippling illness, made significant contributions to the campaign for cancer research and awareness. to this day, his family celebrates his life by establishing a tribute of light towards a foundation created in his name, the michael cuccione foundation.

a few closeup details of the beautiful set up … including …

the candy cane fence … GOTTA love the candy cane fence!

there’s something incredibly poignant in this setup that i couldn’t resist. the best, though, is not just getting the right christmas lights and decorations. it’s also finding this beauty parked outside the right christmas lights and decoration setup.

mmmm come to mama.

when i finally could tear myself from ms. bettie (yes, i decided to name her, even though she’s not mine) … i found all of these cool christmas front porches on one cool street, trinity street, THE coolest street in east vancouver coz they decided to have a contest for the house with the best set up for christmas lights and decorations! they even have the local newspaper reporting on their eighth annual trinity street lights contest.

the softly lit walkway to this house could have come right off the set of narnia!

i was absolutely thrilled to find a larger than life nutcracker guarding the door to this house!

(can you spot the gringe?)
okay…last but not least…it’s a freakin gingerbread house! OMG! true to nature, i went up to the door, very quietly and very quickly (this was all executed at around midnight) to see if it was REALLY gingerbread. …what? it’s christmas! anything can happen! well, needless to say, THIS is one of my absolute favorites! i hope they win!!

do you have a favorite christmas house? tell me which one’s your favorite! ![]()
merry christmas everybody! here’s to a safe and warm festive season!
